The residents of Cumbria are being given the chance to become ghost detectives at a haunted castle this Halloween .
As part of its spooky Halloween Week, Muncaster Castle is offering a series of torchlight ghost tours where visitors can discover more about the castles supernatural residents.
Scientists have been researching the ghosts of Muncaster Castle since 1992 and are still mystified by some of the strange occurrences reported there.
Ghosts believed to live at the castle include the Muncaster Boggle or White Lady, who reportedly haunts the gardens and roadways around the town, and Tom Fool, the castles former jester.
Peter Frost-Pennington, whose family own the castle, said: "People are fascinated with Muncasters spooky history and reputation for being one of Britains most haunted castles, so we want to offer them the chance to track down one of our ghosts for themselves."
"Our entertaining ghost tours enable families to have fun exploring the castle by torchlight as well as enjoying lots of other Halloween activities throughout the week."
The spooky Halloween Week, taking place from October 26 to November 2, will also feature a ghostly grotto, including games, face painting and other fun childrens activities, from 3pm until 5pm.
The grotto will be followed by Joel Dickinson, who will take to the stage each evening from, except November 2, to perform his popular magic show .
Once the torchlight ghost tours have come to an end, the gardens and castle will light up with an array of multi-coloured lights until 9pm each evening, including a creepy show with ghosts and witches projected on to the walls of the castle .
Visitors will also be treated to nightly talks on Cumbrian Halloween traditions and stories and dare-devil fire juggling performances until November 1.
Children wearing fancy dress can enter the castle free of charge throughout the week and on Halloween Night itself. More details and prices can be found online at Muncaster.co.uk .
